EXPECT

Your manual therapy session will always start with questions about your general health; any issues or pain you may be experiencing; your activities; and your stress level, to determine the goals of therapeutic session. The goals may be pain relief, treatment of an injury or muscular condition, or relief from any number of conditions that massage, craniosacral therapy and/or visceral manipulation can help with.
The therapist will leave the room so that you may undress to your comfort level. Much manual therapy is done while you are unclothed, but can also be done fully clothed, if that is preferred. Craniosacral Therapy is generally done fully clothed. You will be asked to lie on a treatment table, underneath a drape (usually a sheet & blanket.) As the therapist works, only the area being worked on will be undraped. (Most people don’t know that proper draping / coverage is New York State law!)
It is very important to feed back to your therapist during your session about your comfort level. No treatment, even medical massage or deep tissue massage techniques should ever be severely painful!!
You may chat or be quiet during your session – whichever helps you to relax. Quiet is usually more relaxing and therapeutic for most people.
At the end of the session, the therapist will let you know that your session is over, and that they’re leaving the room so that you can get dressed. You will be in a deeply relaxed state, so you should be careful when you get off the table. It may take a short while to be fully alert.
